Annunciation Vespers 2013
On Sunday evening, March 24, 2013 Metropolitan Nicholas presided at the Great Vespers for the Feast of the Annunciation of the Theotokos at the Annunciation Cathedral in Detroit, Michigan. On this occasion, clergy and members of the Council of Orthodox Christian Churches of Metro Detroit (COCC) were invited to participate. Responses were offered by the choirs of the COCC, the Annunciation Cathedral and the chanters. More than 30 clergy from Greater Detroit Area co-celebrated at this historic event. Fr. George Shalhoub (St. Mary Antiochian Basilica of Livonia, Michigan) offered a wonderful sermon focused on unity among Orthodox Christians. A procession with icons was organized to celebrate the Sunday of Orthodoxy and the triumph over the Iconoclast movement that banned the use of icons of Jesus, Mary, and the saints and commanded the destruction of these images.
